Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Project

Safe Streets for All

Planning Today for a Safer Tomorrow

Project Overview

The City of Corvallis has launched a new transportation planning project to enhance road safety for everyone who walks, bikes, rolls, uses transit or drives in the city. This project involves the development of a Transportation Safety Action Plan (TSAP) which will use data to identify where crashes happen and understand their causes, allowing the City to develop community-driven safety solutions with a focus on reducing crashes that result in fatalities or serious injuries. This aligns with City Council's previous endorsement of the Vision Zero concept. The TSAP will build on the City’s 2019 Transportation System Plan (TSP) and is the first step in a long-term process to improve road safety. This plan will identify community needs and prioritize projects that can be funded and implemented over time.

In addition to the development of the TSAP, the SS4A Project will:

  • Conduct road safety audits on Walnut Boulevard, Circle Boulevard, and 9th Street
  • Explore options to change the lane layout on Walnut Boulevard
  • Assess the City’s Neighborhood Traffic Management program
  • Develop a clear process to determine when speed limits should be studied Update design guidelines for safer pedestrian crossings

By increasing safety for all road users and emphasizing active modes, this project will also help meet the City's climate and livability goals as identified in our Climate Action Plan and Strategic Plan, as well as Oregon's broader statewide goals for Climate Friendly Areas.

collaboration with benton county

The City of Corvallis and Benton County are collaborating on their respective TSAPs to ensure efficiency, consistency, and a unified approach to improving transportation safety. While the Corvallis TSAP focuses on roadways within city limits, the Benton County TSAP addresses the surrounding urban fringe and County-maintained streets within Corvallis.

Safety Concern Comment Map

This map is a shared tool for Benton County and the City of Corvallis as part of our Safe Streets and Roads for All efforts to improve transportation safety through the development of our Transportation Safety Action Plans (TSAP). While collision data helps us understand safety risks on our roads, it doesn’t tell the whole story. Some crashes go unreported, and near misses—those close calls that could have been serious—are rarely documented. That’s why we need your input.

By sharing locations where you’ve felt unsafe—whether you’re walking, biking, driving, or rolling—you can help us identify safety concerns that might not appear in the data. Your feedback will be combined with collision data to pinpoint potential problem areas, guide safety improvements, and help shape our TSAPs. While we can’t address every location flagged, your feedback ensures we focus on the areas where changes can make the greatest impact.

What we’re looking for:

  • Intersections or crossings where you’ve experienced near misses
  • Areas with poor visibility, unsafe speeds, or confusing traffic patterns
  • Any location where you’ve felt unsafe while traveling

What this map won’t cover:

This project is focused on safety, not general transportation issues like traffic congestion or road maintenance.

Thank you for sharing your insights and helping make our roads safer for everyone!
