Stabbing Arrest on NW Deer Run Pl

On, October 4th, 2021 at approximately 1217 hours, officers from the Corvallis Police Department responded for a report of an unknown problem in the 2800 block of NW Deer Run Pl. Details were limited to the caller reporting someone saying “Call the cops” and requesting an ambulance. As officers responded, the Dispatchers learned the incident being reported was a stabbing and the suspect was being restrained by others at the scene.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a male, later identified as Heber Gonzalez (25) of Hillsboro, lying on the ground with his hands zip-tied behind his back. Investigators located the victim of the stabbing, Juan Ramirez-Miguel (38) of Hillsboro, and determined Ramirez-Miguel has suffered a single stab wound to the right side of his chest approximately 6 inches below his armpit. Corvallis Fire Department medics arrived and rendered aid to Ramirez-Miguel, ultimately transporting him to the Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment (Miguel-Ramirez remained at GSH and is medically stable).

Upon interviewing Ramirez-Miguel, along with additional witnesses to the incident, investigators learned Gonzalez was a new addition to the construction crew working in the area. While working with Ramirez-Miguel on a concrete driveway, Gonzalez armed himself with a folding knife and stabbed Ramirez-Miguel once in his chest. Ramirez-Miguel stumbled back and fled out into the street. Gonzalez pursued Ramirez-Miguel, retrieved a 6-foot metal pole from the ground and struck Ramirez-Miguel twice, partially bending the pole. Ramirez-Miguel was able to tackle Gonzalez to the ground where he was assisted by witnesses who ran to help. Gonzalez was controlled by the witnesses, who were able to zip-tie his hands behind his back. Throughout the attack, Gonzalez threatened Ramirez-Miguel, and any who would help him, with death.

Gonzalez was transported to the Benton County Jail where he was booked on the following charges:

Assault 2

Unlawful Use of a Weapon 2

Coercion

Menacing

Disorderly Conduct 2
