Accreditation
The Corvallis Police Department achieved their first, initial accreditation award in 1995 through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). Since 1995, we have remained accredited through CALEA while having undergone eight separate reaccreditation assessments. Our last reaccreditation onsite took place in December, 2017, with a certificate of Advanced Meritorious Accreditation officially awarded at the CALEA conference in March, 2018.
CALEA developed and maintains a comprehensive set of 459 law enforcement standards that cover every aspect of law enforcement policies, procedures, best practices and operations. These standards are designed to:
- Increase law enforcement agency capabilities to prevent and control crime.
- Increase agency effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of law enforcement services.
- Increase cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.
- Increase employee and community confidence in the goals, objectives, policies and practices of the accredited agency.
Standard titles may be viewed on the CALEA website.
As an accredited police agency, the Corvallis Police Department has demonstrated practices that are in line with international standards, assuring the community of the highest quality police services. In doing so, the Police Department has joined a select number of agencies internationally that have achieved this standard of professional excellence.
BENEFITS OF ACCREDITATION:
- Enhanced community partnerships.
- Coordination with neighboring agencies and other parts of the criminal justice system.
- Systematic assessment and upgrading of training and equipment.
- Reduction of liability litigation and related costs.
- Proactively developed management systems, policies and procedures.
- Impartial guidelines for evaluation and change.
- International recognition of professional excellence.
