Crash Involving Pedestrian on NW 9th Street

On December 13, 2021, at approximately 5:44 pm, emergency services from the Corvallis Police Department and the Corvallis Fire Department responded for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle while crossing NW 9th St near the intersection of NW Garfield Ave.

The male pedestrian was transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center where he remains in stable condition. The pedestrian was identified as Thomas Jew, a 47-year-old male with no fixed address. The driver involved in the crash, identified as a 26-year-old Corvallis resident, remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.

Through interviews with the driver and independent witnesses, investigators determined Jew was crossing NW 9th St outside of the crosswalk, approximately 10 yards south of the intersection when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. Based on the investigation, neither speed nor intoxication were factors in the crash. Officers reported it was not raining at the time of the crash though the roadway was wet, it was dark, and Jew was reported to be wearing dark clothing.

At this time, no citations have been issued to either Jew or the driver of the involved vehicle, though citations may be issued at a later date.

Note: At this time there is no additional information available related to this incident. Any updates on the investigation will be disseminated via a press release at a later date.
