Corvallis Police Arrest Suspects for Theft of Catalytic Converters

On February 25th, 2020, at approximately 8:45am, Corvallis Police officers responded to the area of the Jackson-Frazier Wetlands (3600 NE Lancaster St) for a report of suspicious circumstances. A caller reported seeing three males sitting on what they believed to be an animal.  The caller provided a suspect vehicle description as well as a license plate. A deputy from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office was in the area and located the vehicle. 

Officers responded and made contact with the occupants who were identified as the following:

Nathaniel Taylor (age 36, Albany resident);

Jameson Collet (age 37, Albany resident);

Zachary Tyler (age 40, Albany resident).

The occupants of the vehicle consented to search and no animals, or evidence of animal abuse, were located.  However, during the vehicle search CPD Officers located methamphetamine pipes, a disassembled shotgun, and four catalytic converters.  After a thorough investigation, officers were able to locate and identify the four vehicles from which the catalytic converters were stolen. 

Zachary Tyler was ultimately cited and released on an outstanding warrant.

Jameson Collet was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance- Methamphetamine (Misdemeanor).

Nathaniel Taylor was arrested for the theft of the catalytic converters.  Taylor was charged with Theft I (4 counts), Criminal Mischief I (4 counts), Possession of Burglar’s Tools, and Possession of Methamphetamine (Felony).

The Corvallis Police would like to extend our thanks to the observant caller who reported the suspicious behavior. The theft of catalytic converters has been increasing lately, and community members should be on the lookout for subjects acting suspiciously around or near parked vehicles.
