Corvallis Detectives Make Arrest Related to September 26, 2022 Pedestrian Hit and Run Crash near OSU
On September 26, 2022, at approximately 6:21 pm, the Corvallis Regional Communications Center received an emergency call reporting a crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at the intersection of NW 26th St and NW Harrison Blvd. Corvallis Police Department personnel and Corvallis Fire Department personnel responded to the scene.
Upon arrival it was determined the pedestrian suffered extensive injuries as a result of the crash and the vehicle involved left the scene. The pedestrian was transported to the Corvallis Good Samaritan Regional Medical facility for treatment of traumatic injuries. The pedestrian was identified as Oregon State University Student, Aliyah Lopez (21 yoa).
The intersection was closed for approximately five hours to process the scene. Members of the Corvallis Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) and Detectives responded to assist with the investigation and collect evidence.
Since the incident occurred this case has been actively investigated by Corvallis Police Detectives. On October 13, 2022 Corvallis Police Detectives received an anonymous tip regarding the vehicle of interest in this case. Detectives located the vehicle and obtained a search warrant to seize, search and analyze the vehicle for evidence of the crash. Based on the investigation Detectives identified Kenneth Kreitz, (47) of Florence as the suspect.
On October 19, 2022 at approximately 8:40 am, Corvallis Police Detectives arrested Kreitz and booked him into the Benton County Jail on the following charges:
Reckless Driving (ORS 811.140)
Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver to Injured Persons (ORS 811.705)
Assault in the Third Degree (ORS 163.165)
Reckless Endangering Another Person (ORS 163.195)
Tampering With Physical Evidence (ORS 166.270)
Note: At this time there is no additional information available related to this incident. Any updates on the investigation will be disseminated via a press release at a later date. Effective January 1, 2022, and in accordance with Oregon House Bill 3273, the Corvallis Police Department is prohibited from releasing a booking photo of the suspect in this investigation.
