Man Arrested for Menacing and Stolen Handgun
On Monday, April 30th, 2018 at approximately 11:39 PM, Corvallis Police Department Officers were dispatched to the area of NW 11th Street and NW Van Buren Avenue for a report of an armed male who pulled a gun on another person during an altercation. The argument started after the victim confronted the suspect, identified as 55-year-old Nelson Brown of Corvallis, for yelling loudly outside their residence.
During the argument, Brown reportedly brandishing a handgun, cycled a round into the chamber of the gun, and threatening the victim. Brown was seen running from the area by witnesses prior to Officers arriving but was contacted a short time later. Brown denied being involved in any incident and consented to a search of his barbershop and residence at 1108 NW Van Buren Ave. During the search, a 9mm XD handgun, which was confirmed stolen, was located in Brown’s dresser drawer with a round chambered. Additional ammunition for the 9mm was also recovered. Brown, who is a convicted felon, was taken into custody on charges of Menacing, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Theft I, and Disorderly Conduct II. He was lodged at the Benton County Jail with a bail amount of $70,000.
