Housing Discrimination
The Fair Housing Act states that no one may discriminate against a person based on, race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (families with children), or handicap, when renting or selling a home.
Oregon includes the following additional protection categories: source of income, marital status, sexual orientation and gender identity. Also, there are specific rights for survivors of domestic violence. As of 2014, the Oregon Revised Statutes also includes language that prohibits a landlord from refusing to rent to a tenant who wants to use a HUD Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (the tenant still needs to meet the qualifications to rent the dwelling unit).
Corvallis has additional categories of protection: age (if 18 years and older), citizenship status, gender expression, and religious observance.
