The City of Corvallis produces the weekly Neighborhood Update to help our neighborhoods connect with one another. If you have questions or wish to share information, please send an email.
New This Week
COVID-19 Things to Know this Week - COVID-19 has been impacting us for nearly five months and the amount of news on this topic can be overwhelming. Below are a few links not to miss:
- Current guidance for gatherings, physical distancing, and face coverings and Benton County COVID-19 numbers. Benton County Dashboard
- Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) has ended. Read the OED Statement.
-
Guidance for the Upcoming School Year - Review the Oregon Department of Education guidance. Childcare guidelines are currently under development and expected to be released by August 15.
ODOT Pilot near South Brooklane is Planned - Oregon Department of Transportation is initiating a pilot project this summer to explore potential bike safety improvements along SW Brooklane Drive at the intersection of U.S. 20 (Philomath Blvd); this will include the use of a new infrared camera for bike detection.
National Night Out 2020 - In light of the ongoing pandemic, the National Night Out activities coordinated by our Corvallis Police Department have been canceled for August 2020. CPD will assess rescheduling the event later in the fall.
Census 2020 Responses Needed - According to the Council of Governments, the Census 2020 response rate is lower in many areas of Corvallis and significantly lower in the areas nearest to campus. View the Map. Census information is used to inform congressional representation and is the basis for federal funding allocations that affect our roads, facilities, and infrastructure and indirectly impact our local taxes. The Council of Governments is strategizing ways to reach students who relocated due to COVID-19, but neighborhoods are asked to reach out to those in their boundaries and encourage everyone to take the census.
Announcements & Upcoming Events
Watch the COVID-19 Check-in with Local Health Officials - Last week's CitySpeak Forum included a panel with local health officials, including Danielle Brown and Charlie Fautin of the Benton County Health Department. Watch the check-in.
Watch the OSU Monitoring Annual Report Presentation - The annual OSU Campus Master Plan Monitoring Report was presented during last week's City Council Work Session. The report addresses a number of topics related to parking, alternative travel options, and the work plan for buildings and facilities. The complete report is available online. A video of the 7/23/20 presentation will be posted here on 7/28/20.
Corvallis Fire Department offers Neighborhood Presentations - Our new Fire Chief, Ken McCarthy, and the Corvallis Fire Department would like to partner with neighborhood associations and groups to increase awareness about CFD and its services. The City is offering to host virtual presentations for neighborhoods interested in engaging with our Fire Department. If your neighborhood would like to schedule a city-hosted virtual presentation with the Chief and his team, send us an email. If your neighborhood is in proximity to an outdoor location that allows physical distancing, we can coordinate a small gathering in accordance with current health guidelines.
COVID-19 Quick Links for Neighborhood Leaders: A website that includes all the links provided to neighborhood leaders related to COVID-19 is now available. The intent is to provide leaders with a central reference point for COVID-19 information that appears in these weekly updates. Check it out.
