Week of 05/10/21 - Neighborhoods

The Neighborhood Update is produced on a weekly(ish) basis by the City of Corvallis to help neighborhoods stay connected.

The event will include music, information about the CMLC and other community partners, and of course, food! Masks and social distancing are required. Please be conscious and considerate of people’s space to help everyone feel safe. Questions? Contact the CMLC for more information. This event is partially funded by a 2020 Empowerment Grant award.

Rethinking Streets Discussion - May 18 @ 7p @ online - The Dixon Creek Neighborhood Association has partnered with the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition & Corvallis Right of Way (CROW) to offer a virtual presentation with Dr. Marc Schlossberg, University of Oregon Professor of City and Regional Planning in the School of Planning, Public Policy and Management. Dr. Schlossberg is also Co-Director of the Sustainable Cities Institute and the lead author of three books on street redesign. This event is partially funded by a 2020 Empowerment Grant award.

Active Travel Corridors (ATC) Get Us There Quicker! - Throughout the years, Corvallis has been quietly developing neighborhood shortcuts for people walking, rolling, and biking. These cut-throughs connect people to important locations such as another street, a park, or a school. A little like Chutes and Ladders, they shorten the trip for people traveling by active modes and enrich the experience of travel through neighborhoods. May is ATC Kickoff Month and we want YOU to help us define the network! To build out our online ATC map, we are asking for community support to help identify all of the many corridors Corvallis has hidden in plain sight. We are even giving away a limited amount of City of Corvallis bike map bandanas to get you motivated! Learn more and get involved.

Neighborhoods Invited to Celebrate History - Each May, Corvallis joins communities across the country to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month. Historic preservation honors the places that people treasure; sparks renewed community pride; conserves cultural landscapes; fosters environmental sustainability; celebrates the built and natural environments; and brings new investment, jobs, and economic vitality to our historic areas. Check out the video tours and neighborhood self-guided tours!

Jobs Addition Neighborhood Association Goes to Work - JANA held a work party at Corvallis High School last week to "liberate" native plants.  Neighbors brought their own clippers, loppers, and knee pads and worked to remove weeds and blackberries from the native plantings along the creek. Additional work parties are anticipated over the summer.
