November 22, 2024 - The City of Corvallis is seeking proposals for grant funding through the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the HOME Investment Partnerships program, both of which provide funding to accomplish the City's housing goals. The application packets for both grant opportunities are available on the City website. The deadline to submit a project checklist (the first step in the application process) is 12 p.m. Friday, December 20. Additional information and proposal requirements are described in the request for proposal packets.

Funding totals for both programs are dependent on amounts approved next year by the federal government, so exact amounts may change. Funding will be available after July 1, 2025.

Community Development Block Grants

The CDBG program is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The City’s program supports projects that focus on infrastructure, housing rehabilitation and public facility improvements. Since 2018, the City's CDBG program has awarded nearly $1.8 million to fund 14 projects in our community, including shelters, transitional homes, and affordable housing. To date, these projects have supported more than 24,000 low-income Corvallis community members. An estimated total of $450,000 is available in this round of CDBG funding.

HOME Investment Partnerships

The HOME program is also regulated and funded by HUD. As a HOME Program participating jurisdiction, the City of Corvallis receives annual allocations from HUD to invest in projects, programs and activities that support our local housing goals. Most recently, the HOME program provided $1 million in funding for the development of Third Street Commons, which will create 47 units of permanent supportive housing for people transitioning out of homelessness. An estimated total of $250,000 is available in this round of HOME funding.

"These two grant programs represent important opportunities to bring outside investment and resources into Corvallis to serve our community members," said Nyssa Paul, the Housing Grant Coordinator in the City's Community Development Department. "We're excited to receive proposals in December and support future projects in our community."
