September 1, 2026 - Labor negotiations between the City of Corvallis and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) have entered a new phase after the union declared impasse on September 1. The declaration comes a few days after the union took a strike authorization vote. The City and the union have been working since January on a new contract for the City’s employees represented by AFSCME. The two sides are scheduled to meet again in mediation on September 10 with the state’s Employee Relations Board (ERB).

To address the long-term challenges of the rising costs and limited resources, the City Council is focusing on equitable, sustainable revenue solutions that can strategically support community services for years to come. 

Starting last year, the Council evaluated a field of more than two dozen options and narrowed down to two solutions that could work for Corvallis. You can follow the Council's decision-making process on the City website. Here are tools the Council is considering:

We haven't sat idly by watching the budget gap approaching. The City of Corvallis has taken steps to plan for and invest in core community services over the last 10 years.

In November 2026, voters in Corvallis will have the opportunity to consider a ballot measure that proposes changes to the City of Corvallis Charter.
