Jim Moorefield
Jim Moorefield received a BA from Amherst College followed by a 40-year career in housing and human services. In 2018 he retired after 20 years as Executive Director of Willamette Neighborhood Housing Services, a nonprofit organization that developed affordable housing and provided other services with a focus on economic opportunity, strengthening neighborhoods, and building on the intersection between housing and health. Jim had previously worked for several public and private nonprofit organizations addressing housing, homelessness, and mental health.
During his career, Jim was selected by his peers to serve as Board President of a state-wide affordable housing advocacy organization, and he served on the Boards of Directors of two nonprofit Community Development Financial Institutions. In 2013 he received the “Mary Zelinka Advocate For Social Justice Award” from the Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence. In 2010 he was one of 50 people selected nationally to participate in “Achieving Excellence in Community Development,” an Executive Education program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Jim and his wife Jo have lived in south Corvallis since 1983. Jim previously represented Ward 3 on the Corvallis City Council (1989-1992). He chaired the South Corvallis Area Refinement Plan Advisory Committee, helped secure City Council and voter support for a South Corvallis Urban Renewal Plan, and has served on the Boards of Directors of DaVinci Days, Community Outreach, and the Greenbelt Land Trust.
When not enjoying life in Corvallis, Jim and Jo travel and camp in places wild and remote all over the west. Favorite locations include the Oregon Outback and the redrock desert and canyons of the southwest.
