Olympic Sized 50 Meter Pool
Size and capacity
The Olympic sized pool is 165 feet long by 56 feet wide (8 lap lanes, each 7 feet wide). It holds 490,000 gallons (almost 1/2 million gallons).
Depth and design
Depth begins at 3.5 feet and gradually slopes down to 13 feet at the deepest end. The 50 Meter Pool is divided by a moveable bulkhead. When the bulkhead is moved to either end, the pool is configured for 50 meter lanes or "Long Course" and when the bulkhead is in the center of the pool, the two halves are then both configured for 25 meter lanes or "Short Course."
Features
The shallow end has a water-basketball hoop, inner-tubes and floating mats. The deep end has one 1-meter diving board and one 3-meter diving board.
Water Temperature
The 50 Meter Pool's temperature is kept at 81º F
Accessibility
The 50 Meter Pool is handicap accessible from wheel chairs, standing or carry positions by means of the portable ARJO Mark II handicap lift and battery operated RehaMed PAL - Portable Aquatic Lift.
Filtration and circulation system
The water is filtered with a large vacuum diatomaceous earth filter and it is disinfected with a Calcium Hypochlorite tablet system. The circulation system is capable of a turnover rate of just under 5 hours, which is better than the state standard of 6 hours.
Sustainability
The 50 Meter Pool circulation pump is equipped with a variable frequency drive which allows it to run at slower speed for a significant energy savings. The 50 Meter Pool is equipped with a UV disinfection system which reduces the need for some pool chemicals and reduces the chlorine byproduct- chloramines, which are responsible for eye burn, skin irritation, breathing difficulties and "chlorine" odor.
