Leisure Pool/Otter Beach

Leisure Pool/Otter Beach

Size and capacity
The Leisure Pool, adjacent to the Outdoor Lap Pool, has a free form design, about the shape of a quarter-circle. The pool is roughly 110 feet long by 90 feet wide. It holds 76,000 gallons of water with an additional 5,000 gallons in the filter pit and pipes for a total of 81,000 gallons.

Depth and design
The Leisure Pool is 3.5 feet at its deepest areas and slopes gradually up to a zero depth, "beach" entry area which extends around the quarter-circle arch of the pool. The deepest part of the pool is made up of the "splash down" catch pool for the water slide and a free form "lazy river" style water channel.

Features
The Leisure Pool has a nearly 5 foot wide, 155 foot long water channel with a pump driven current and forced air bubble benches. The pool also has a 158 foot long, 22 foot high water slide. The Leisure Pool is designed for water fun with three "water-cannon" spray toys, numerous geyser water jets, a large interactive arch-jet spray feature, tumble-buckets, an 8 foot wide kiddies' water slide and an interactive "pools and falls" water toy. Finally there is a large play structure with interactive waterfalls and sprays, a tire swing and a kiddies' tube slide. Our mats and inner-tubes are not allowed in the Leisure Pool due to limited space and high number of small children enjoying this pool.

Water temperature
The Leisure Pool's temperature is kept at 86° F.

Handicap access
The Leisure Pool is handicap accessible from wheel chairs, standing or carry positions by means of the battery operated RehaMed PAL - Portable Aquatic Lift, as well as by rolling directly into the pool from the zero depth beach entry areas, using water-safe chairs and gurneys.

Filtration and circulation system
The Leisure Pool is filtered with three high rate sand filters and is disinfected with a Calcium Hypochlorite tablet system. The circulations system is capable of a turnover rate of 1.5 hours, which is better than the state standard of 6 hours.

Sustainability
The leisure pool has an evaporation inhibitor which is applied each night during the summer season to help conserve heat and reduce water loss due to evaporation. The main circulation pump is equipped with a variable frequency drive which allows it to run at a slightly slower speed for a significant energy savings.
