Benton County is fortunate to contain many incredible trees. For millennia humans have been shaping the forest here in the Willamette Valley. As a result we have many ancient Oregon white oak, Madrone and Big leaf maple. In addition many trees were planted by early settlers near their home sites, and the University has developed an impressive collection of trees.
The Corvallis Benton County Heritage Tree Program was developed in order to honor these exceptional trees.
The Urban Forestry Staff execute an annual structural pruning program for young trees. This is accomplished on a 5 year cycle with the intention of pruning all young trees once every five years. Structural pruning is vital to create healthier and more structurally stable trees for the future.This program was expanded recently and will continue to grow as resources are available.
The Corvallis Neighborhood Tree Stewards Program is a collaborative effort between dedicated local volunteers, neighborhood associations, CBUF, and the City of Corvallis. Its mission is to identify, acknowledge and collaborate with community members to increase public engagement in tree planting and tree care in Corvallis. This is accomplished through year round engagement with local partners to involve the community in tree planting and tree care activities and education.
The City of Corvallis may not recommend specific contractors to do work. However we recommend you request bids from multiple reputable arborists to ensure you get a fair price and ask for references to make sure you get quality work.
Tree pruning should not be undertaken lightly, it is an inherently invasive process which opens the tree up to decay. However it is often necessary to produce a tree which will remain the landscape for many decades or centuries.
Pruning should start with an analysis of the age, health and inherent growth pattern of the tree, followed by asking the questions, "What do I hope to accomplish by pruning my tree?".
Please look over the list of permitted activities below and fill out the application with the relevant information. The forester will get back to you once they have reviewed the application to schedule a meeting on site if necessary.
