When is an Electrical Permit Needed?

Electrical permits are required for any electrical work performed in conjunction with the construction, alteration, repair, or conversion of a building. Permits are also required for the installation, alteration or relocation of an electrical branch circuit, service or feeder.

The following are some examples of when electrical permits are required. This information is not all-inclusive, so please check with Development Services staff to discuss the scope of your project.

Parking Lots

When is a Parking Lot Permit Needed?

Permits are required for parking lots proposed to be constructed, expanded, or reconstructed. Parking lot reconstruction is work such as removing and replacing 50% or more of the existing paving but would not include adding a lift of asphalt, resealing the surface, or other standard maintenance activity.

In general, building permits are required to construct, enlarge, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure.

Do I Need a Permit?

In general, permits are required to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing system. If you are unsure whether your project requires a permit, see our Do I Need a Permit guide (for residential projects) or contact us.

Ward Boundary Maps

Corvallis is divided into nine city wards encompassing roughly equal proportions of community members. Ward boundary maps are adjusted every 10 years based on the results of the most recent U.S. Census. The most recent update took place in 2022. The process for adjusting the ward maps is laid out in the City Charter.
