June 21, 2022 - The City of Corvallis is partnering with the Corvallis Chamber of Commerce to organize The Great Downtown Cleanup, happening the last week of June. Funding provided by the City will be used to purchase cleaning supplies and other materials, and volunteers will be coordinated by the Chamber. The funds came from a grant awarded to the Corvallis-Benton County Economic Development Office (EDO) by the Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments (COG).

The Chamber is excited to facilitate this inaugural event to help area businesses improve the downtown district. “We’re happy to partner with the City to help make the historic downtown area look fantastic going into summer,” said Simon Date, Executive Director of the Corvallis Chamber, “Downtown businesses are incredibly important to the vitality of the community and the curb appeal and visibility should be maximized going into a season where so many people are spending time outside in our downtown.”

The initiative will focus on sprucing up the downtown, with activities like weeding sidewalks, picking up trash, power washing, replacing trash liners, and sweeping sidewalks. “The City believes in a strong, healthy downtown and this was one small way we could help with making our downtown look its best as we head into the beautiful summer months,” said Kate Porsche, Economic Development Manager.

The cleanup efforts will start on Monday, June 27 and continue throughout the week, as needed and based on volunteer availability. The Chamber will provide cleaning materials, tools, and safety supplies. Anyone interested in volunteering is encourage to sign up at https://corvallischamber.wufoo.com/forms/m1syu60s0c9ldrq/.
