City Declares Local Emergency Amid Countywide Wildfire Response

News - For Immediate Release

City Manager Mark Shepard declared a local emergency for the City of Corvallis as the city organization mobilizes resources to assist with the countywide response to severe wildfires affecting the mid-valley area. The announcement came at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 10.

The City's emergency declaration names the Corvallis Fire Chief as the official in charge of the local response. With the announcement, the City can request additional resources if the response exceeds local capacity. Benton County made a similar declaration today as well.

Wildland fires in neighboring counties have displaced residents, destroyed structures, and threatened public infrastructure. In addition, smoke has contributed to hazardous air quality in the Corvallis area. Together with Benton County, the City of Corvallis is taking steps to support its neighboring agencies during this time of need.
