The Benton County Emergency Operation Center’s donation drop-off site is scaling back its operation after volunteers collected more than 20,000 masks, gloves, face shields, and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to help the local pandemic response since late March.

Starting Monday, April 20, the donation site at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library’s parking garage will operate from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, with volunteers processing drive-up donations safely and expediently. The Library is located at 645 NW Monroe. The site will be closed outside of this Wednesday availability.

“We’ve seen a tremendous outpouring of support from the Benton County community over the last few weeks,” said Nyssa Cronin, the donation coordinator at the EOC. “Donors have stepped up and helped us respond to urgent needs in the community. We’re in a much better place than we were at the outset of this pandemic.”

The Library donation site has been used over the last three weeks to gather masks, gowns, gloves, eyewear, and other PPE. This material is being inventoried for distribution to essential workers by emergency management officials in the EOC. The donations include the following:

  • 2,562 N95 masks
  • 7,960 regular masks
  • 11,480 pairs of gloves
  • 434 face shields
  • 900 lab coats

Non-PPE donations, such as books, toys, clothing, toiletries, and non-perishable food, is being collected by the Corvallis School District at the Western View Center, 1435 SW 35th St., from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday.

The EOC is a joint effort by Benton County and the City of Corvallis, in coordination with local and regional partners, to support the countywide pandemic response. For the latest information on volunteering or donations, please visit https://bentoncounty.recovers.org.
