New City Council Takes Oath of Office
The new 2019-2020 Corvallis City Council was sworn in on January 7, 2019 at the beginning of the first regular Council meeting of the year. The municipal judge administered the oath of office to the nine councilors who were beginning their new two-year terms, as well as Mayor Biff Traber, who began a new four-year term. Friends, family and supporters were on hand to commemorate the event.
The new City Council features four new incoming Councilors as well as five who are returning for another term.
- Ward 1 – Jan Napack
- Ward 2 – Charles Maughan
- Ward 3 – Hyatt Lytle
- Ward 4 – Barbara Bull
- Ward 5 – Charlyn Ellis
- Ward 6 – Nancy Wyse
- Ward 7 – Bill Glassmire
- Ward 8 – Ed Junkins
- Ward 9 – Andrew Struthers
After the oath of office, the Council’s first item of business was to elect the Council President and Council Vice President. These two positions help guide the Council’s work on key issues throughout the year. In the Mayor’s absence, the President or Vice President can also step in and run Council meetings. Councilor Lytle was elected President and Councilor Wyse was elected Vice President.
In Corvallis, all nine City Councilors are elected concurrently to two-year terms, each representing a different ward in the City. The Mayor is elected at-large to a four-year term.
All elected officials in Corvallis are volunteers who typically contribute 10 to 15 hours each week to City-related business.
