First ICAN SOLVE Event to Focus on Emergency Preparedness
The Corvallis community is invited to the first-ever ICAN SOLVE event, hosted by the Imagine Corvallis Action Network (ICAN). SOLVE events are designed to bring together community members to focus on generating and refining solutions to problems facing the local community. The May 18 event will focus on community emergency preparedness and will feature issues and challenges developed in partnership with the Corvallis Fire Department, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, and Samaritan Health Services.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the Boys & Girls Club, 1112 NW Circle Blvd. Lunch and snacks will be provided. The event is free thanks to sponsorships from Samaritan Health Services, First Alternative Natural Food Co-Op, and the City of Corvallis. Registration is available online.
SOLVE, which stands for Solution-Oriented Learning and Visioning Event, uses an engaging, collaborative format that was originally developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. SOLVE events are high-energy forums that invite participants to form and reshape ideas, evaluate and assist on designs, and collaborate and experiment, all while making new friends and professional contacts.
“I'm particularly excited for these ICAN SOLVE events because I think they are an inclusive way to allow community members to play a role in shaping the future that they want for the city,” said ICAN board co-chair Rena Chen, “I see these type of events as opportunities for community members to be heard and take steps to move their ideas into action.”
This SOLVE event is perfect for anyone looking to get more involved in the Corvallis community – particularly anyone who is already engaged, or looking to become engaged, with the 2040 vision. The ICAN network is made up of the groups, individuals, organizations and institutions working together to make the 2040 vision a reality. The advisory board encourages the community to propose initiatives to help support the development of a robust Community Action Plan.
